Wohoo 🥳 I have finished my 2025 GPU workstation build and I am very excited to train new awesome open source models on it.
I built my last GPU workstation 5 years ago featuring an AMD Ryzen 5900X, 64GB of G.SKILL Trident Z RGB on an ASRock X570 Taichi cooled by an Alphacool Eisbär 420. GPU was a Zotac RTX 3090 AMP Extreme. Unfortunately, I was never satisfied with the case - some Fractal Define 7, as it is definitely too small, airflow is not optimal as I had to open the front door all the time and it also arrived with a partly damaged side panel.
For my new build, I've used the following components: an outstanding new AMD Ryzen 9950X3D with 64GB of Corsair Dominator Titanium (what a name). As a huge Noctua fan - warm greetings to my Austrian neighbors - I am using the brand new Noctua NH-D15 G2 on an ASRock X870E Taichi in an amazing Lian Li LANCOOL III chassis. One joke that only NVIDIA Blackwell users will understand: you definitely need a tempered glass panel to check if your GPU cables/connectors start melting 😂 And the best is yet to come: I returned my previously bought Zotac RTX 5090 Solid to the eBay seller (because of... missing ROPs, only NVIDIA Blackwell users will again understand) and bought a Zotac 5090 AMP Extreme INFINITY (yes, the long name indicates that this is the flagship model from Zotac) from a more trustworthy source (NBB in Germany).
I am so happy to start training and fine-tuning new open source models - stay tuned!!!

Last week was crazy in OS AI, with important models and datasets releases every day.
Here are the most important ones I've pinned:
🌎 Cohere relased GLobal-MMLU, a multilingual version of MMLU, to evaluate AI models' world knowledge in many languages!
🦙 Meta released Llama-3.3-70B-Instruct, a 70B model that's on par with Llama-3.1-405B-Instruct, GPT-4o and Claude. Probably my new go-to for agentic workflows.
🔉 FishAudio released fish-speech-1.5, multilingual text to speech model
🎨 Microsoft Research released TRELLIS, an extremely impressive image-to-3D model, which you can try here: JeffreyXiang/TRELLIS

#phdone - I defended my PhD yesterday! A key lesson: it is amazing how open science and open source can empower beginners with limited resources:
I first learned about instruction-based classifiers like BERT-NLI 3-4 years ago, through the @HuggingFace ZeroShotClassificationPipeline. Digging deeper into this, it was surprisingly easy to find new datasets, newer base models, and reusable fine-tuning scripts on the HF Hub to create my own zeroshot models - although I didn't know much about fine-tuning at the time.
Thanks to the community effect of the Hub, my models were downloaded hundreds of thousands of times after a few months. Seeing my research being useful for people motivated me to improve and upload newer models. Leaving my contact details in the model cards led to academic cooperation and consulting contracts (and eventually my job at HF).
That's the power of open science & open source: learning, sharing, improving, collaborating.
I mean every word in my thesis acknowledgments (screenshot). I'm very grateful to my supervisors @vanatteveldt @CasAndreu @KasperWelbers for their guidance; to @profAndreaRenda and @CEPS_thinktank for enabling me to work part-time during the first year; to @huggingface for creating awesome tools and an awesome platform; and to many others who are not active on social media.

PS: If someone happens to speak Latin, let me know if my diploma contains some hidden Illuminati code or something :D
