 Education Background of yours: From Sep 2017 to Jun 2021, Oscar Chan studied in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to get his Bachelor degree of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Civil and Environmental Engineering. During his study, Oscar Chan had an academic Exchange to Tallinn University in Estonia from Dec 2019 to Jan 2020. During his study, Oscar Chan’s final-year project with the title “The Application of IoT for Automatic Algae Imaging, Identification and Classification”, has been named Winner of the 2020–2021 Best Final-Year Environmental Project (Individual Project) Competition, organized by the Environmental Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). From Sep 2021 to Aug 2023, Oscar Chan continued to study in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to get his Master degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Civil Engineering. During this period, Oscar Chan worked as a Graduate Research Assistant.  Oscar Chan developed a novel StyleGAN2-ADA-based image augmentation approach that improved the performance of computer vision models on limited and imbalanced datasets by 16%. Oscar Chan designed, trained and productized automated algae detection models, significantly improving the efficiency and consistency of algae classification for the Water Supplies Department (WSD) in Hong Kong. Oscar Chan also published two journal papers in Water Research and Environmental Science & Technology Water (ES&T Water) and presented a conference paper in the 18th IWA-LET Conference (The 18th Leading Edge Conference on Water and Wastewater Technologies) held in Daegu in South Korea, showcasing expertise in the field of machine learning and its application.
