# Welcome to the Gradio Themes Party 🎉

- We are excited to invite you to the Gradio Themes Party - a community event in which we will create <b>beautiful and interactive themes</b> for the Gradio library. The event will take place from <b>March 20th to March 26th</b>. We will be organizing this event on <a href="https://huggingface.co/Gradio-Themes" target="_blank" style="text-decoration: underline">Hugging Face Spaces</a> and would be engaging through Discord using <a href="https://discord.com/invite/feTf9x3ZSB" target="_blank" style="text-decoration: underline">Hugging Face Discord server</a>. Check the dedicated Gradio channel for staying up to date with the event. Prizes will be given at the end of the event, see the <a href="#Prizes" target="_blank" style="text-decoration: underline">Prizes section</a>.</p><br />

- Gradio is a popular choice for building demos for machine learning models, as it allows you to create web-based UIs all in Python. The interface of the Gradio is very important since it directly affects the user experience of the application. We believe that a visually appealing interface can make the application more attractive to the users. Therefore, we have launched a brand new and exciting feature called **Gradio Themes** which can help you add themes, personalize your app, improve UX and much more. We have decided to organize the Gradio Themes Party to encourage the developer community to develop stunning and impressive themes for their Gradio apps and fronts-ends.

- Gradio can be installed via pip and comes preinstalled in Hugging Face Spaces, the latest version of Gradio that supports Themes is 3.22 and it can be set in the README in Spaces by setting the sdk_version, for example <code>sdk_version: 3.22.0</code></p>

- Using Gradio Themes, you can use default themes (for example, Base, soft, Glass, Monochrome, etc.), extend existing theme very easily, or create your own themes from scratch.

## Hackathon Events (tentative):
1. The **Theme Creation Contest** - Participants would compete to create the most creative or visually stunning theme for a Gradio app. We can add best/most creative themes to deafult ones as a prize plus some goodies for top three winners.
2. **Building Sector specific themes** - Participants would create Gradio themes targeting specific sectors like finance/health/education/art. Participants can also create themes specific to different companies - for example, openai green theme / huggingface emoji theme / meta blue theme etc.
3. **Inclusivity or Accessibility** focussed themes - Participants can submit apps build around themes that support inclusivity in the community. Accessibility is also a key area for this segment, for example building app using themes that suite colorblind people or apps with theme that supports a cause like 'diversity and inclusion' etc.
4. **Gradio app redesign challenge** - Participants will be challenged to redesign an existing trending Gradio app using different themes. Participants can pick up an existing Gradio application and make it better in terms of user experience using Themes. Apps that would be made more visually appealing and user-friendly would be considered for this prize.
5. **Best Dark Toggle** - In this segment participants will design a theme that supports the best effects with dark mode toggle.
6. **Most mobile friendly** themes - We encourage participants to design themes specifically optimized for mobile devices. This can include considerations for input methods, responsive design, and mobile UI focused layout.

## Possible To dos :
- We need to build Theme customization threads / guides / youtube videos - To teach participants how to create custom themes, work with core variables, and extend themes via constructors and the .set() method. Following the videos, participants can showcase their newly-created themes.
- We need to decide how the participants can share their Themes with the wider community. This can help us in setting up a community around Gradio and would also foster creativity.
- Create a gallery of Gradio apps that showcase different themes. Participants can submit their own Gradio apps with different themes and showcase them in a gallery. This can be a great way to showcase the versatility of the Gradio themes feature.
